Effect of Peritoneal Dialysis Skills Training Program in Patients with End-stage Chronic Kidney Disease who Receive Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis on Behaviour Prevention Peritonitis

Abstract

This study was a quasi- experimental research with one groups comparing before and after the experiment. The objective was to study effect of peritoneal dialysis skills training program in patients with end-stage chronic kidney disease who receive continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis on behaviour prevention peritonitis. The sample consisted of 34 patients with end-stage chronic kidney disease receiving continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. Data collection tools include: Behavioral assessment form for preventing peritonitis and recording the incidence of peritonitis. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Paired-t test.
The results of the study found that the majority of the sample were male 55.88%, with an average age of 52.24 years. The sample group had comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension 47.06 %. The patients with end-stage chronic kidney disease receiving continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis after attending a peritoneal dialysis skills training program. The average score for peritonitis prevention behavior was significantly higher than before joining the program (p>0.000) and the incidence of peritonitis was significantly lower than before joining the program (p>0.000).
Suggestion: Nurses can use the peritoneal dialysis skills training program as a guideline for developing nurses' potential to effectively train patients and families.
