Abstract
This retrospective descriptive study aimed to determine the prevalence of pneumonia, treatment outcomes, and factors associated with treatment outcomes among patients with pneumonia admitted to Koh Lanta Hospital, Krabi Province. Data were collected from medical records of patients admitted between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2024. A total of 296 patients were selected using simple random sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, minimum, and maximum values together with inferential statistics, including the Chi-square test and Fisher’s exact test.
The results showed that 56.8% of the patients were male. The prevalence of hospitalized pneumonia was 204.2 per 100,000 population. Regarding treatment outcomes, 3.0% of patients experienced adverse outcomes requiring referral to a higher-level hospital, while 0.7% died. Factors significantly associated with treatment outcomes among patients with pneumonia admitted to Koh Lanta Hospital included underlying diseases, length of hospital stay, oxygen therapy, and low oxygen saturation. These findings indicate that patients with these factors had a higher likelihood of adverse treatment outcomes. The results highlight the importance of assessing disease severity and closely monitoring high-risk patients to ensure appropriate treatment and timely referral in community hospital settings.
