Outcome of the development of practice Guideline for Preventing Phlebitis In Sick Neonates, Mukdahan Hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: This developmental research aimed to (1) examine the incidence of Phlebitis after implementing the developed nursing practice guideline for Phlebitis prevention among hospitalized sick neonates at Mukdahan Hospital; (2) develop a nursing practice guideline for the prevention of Phlebitis in sick neonates admitted to the neonatal unit; and (3) evaluate the level of satisfaction of professional nurses regarding the application of the developed guideline.
Methods: The study was conducted from March 2025 to January 2026. The samples consisted of 60 sick neonates selected through purposive sampling and equally assigned to an experimental group (n = 30) and a control group (n = 30), along with seven professional nurses participating in the evaluation phase. Research instruments included a general infant information form, a competency assessment form for professional nurses regarding the use of the guideline, and a nurse satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation—and the Mann-Whitney U test.
Results: Professional nurses demonstrated a high level of competency in applying the developed nursing practice guideline, while their overall and domain-specific satisfaction levels were rated as high. Regarding neonatal outcomes, the severity of Phlebitis in the experimental group was significantly lower than in the control group (U = 210.00, Z = –4.32, p < .001).
Conclusions: The findings indicate that the application of the developed nursing practice guideline effectively reduced the severity of Phlebitis among sick neonates, demonstrating its potential as a practical and beneficial approach for clinical use.
