Abstract

The contemporary healthcare system is characterized by increasing complexity and diversity, involving multiple stakeholders, including policymakers, healthcare providers, service recipients, communities, and civil society. Differences in interests and perspectives among these stakeholders inevitably give rise to conflicts. If not appropriately managed, such conflicts may adversely affect the quality, efficiency, and sustainability of healthcare systems. Leadership therefore plays a crucial role in conflict management and negotiation, aiming to foster balance, collaboration, and effective coordination within healthcare settings. Possessing a solid body of knowledge in leadership is essential, as it provides a foundation for learning and facilitates the development of appropriate skills to address diverse and complex situations. This article focuses on knowledge related to conflict management and negotiation skills for leadership in healthcare systems. It proposes the application of these concepts as practical guidelines for managing conflicts and conducting negotiations effectively. In addition, illustrative examples of conflict management and negotiation are presented as experiential learning tools for leaders to enhance their competencies. These situations can be systematically analyzed and managed, transforming conflicts into opportunities for organizational development and strengthening the sustainability of the healthcare system.
