The Effectiveness of Health Literacy Promoting Program, Self-Care of Elderly by 3E 2S Ban Chiang Khruea Wat Yai Health Promoting Hospital District, Mueang District, Sakon Nakhon Province

This research aims to be a quasi-experimental study.The objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of a health literacy promotion program for self-care in the elderly, following the 3E 2S principles, at Ban Chiang Khruea Wat Yai Health Promotion Hospital in Mueang District, Sakon Nakhon Province. The sample consisted of elderly individuals aged 60 – 69, selected through purposive sampling, with a total of 60 participants determined by a proportion estimation formula. The participants were elderly residents from various villages receiving services at the health promotion hospital. The program involved applying health literacy theory in conjunction with self-efficacy theory, and data was collected using a six-part questionnaire. Data analysis included descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, as well as inferential statistics to compare the mean scores before and after the program using a Paired Sample T-test, with a significance was 0.05
The results showed that 75.0% of the participants were female (45 individuals), with an average age of 65.23 years and a standard deviation of 2.670. After participating in the program, 83.30% of the elderly had high levels of knowledge about the 3E 2S principles, 86.70% had positive attitudes toward self-care based on these principles, 70.00% had high levels of health literacy, 83.30% had high levels of self-efficacy, and 51.70% exhibited high levels of health care behavior according to the 3A 2S principles. The average scores significantly improved after the program (P-value < 0.001).
