Abstract

As the global landscape undergoes a rapid transition toward urbanization, public health systems face increasingly complex challenges. In this context, Community health nurses play
a critical role in urban areas, particularly in health promotion and disease prevention.
This academic article aims to study the roles of community health nurses in promoting health and preventing disease within urban communities. The study employed a literature review methodology by synthesizing evidence from research articles, government reports, and standard practice guidelines obtained from both national and international databases. The findings indicate that the roles of community health nurses in urban settings can be categorized into seven key areas: (1) provision of nursing services and holistic health promotion, (2) enhancement of public health literacy, (3) health counseling and support for health-related decision-making, (4) utilization of digital technologies for community health management, (5) surveillance and prevention of diseases in urban communities, (6) development of community networks and promotion of community participation, and (7) planning, evaluation, and research in community health. The findings suggest that community health nurses should strengthen their competencies, particularly in language skills and digital health technologies. The integration of tele-nursing systems should be promoted to support patient monitoring and provide health consultations. In addition, proactive screening programs targeting high-risk populations should be intensified through community-based services and collaboration with local administrative organizations. Such approaches will enhance the effectiveness of health promotion and disease prevention strategies in urban communities.
