Effectiveness of a follow program for using mobile applications on pain in terminally ill cancer patients receiving palliative care in Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy Center Khon Kaen Hospital

Abstract

This research was to study Effectiveness of a follow program for using mobile applications on pain in terminally ill cancer patients receiving palliative care. It is a Quasi-experimental research design. The sample is terminally ill cancer patients receiving palliative care aged 18 years and over. Was diagnosed by a doctor as having terminal cancer and was receiving palliative care. Have a Palliative Performance Scale (PPS) score of 40% or more. There is disturbance, pain and use of opioid. According to the treatment plan, 44 cases in Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy Center, Khon Kaen Hospital. The study was conducted from February 2023 to July 2023. Research tools include a mobile application program, Pain record and assessment form and Patient and caregiver satisfaction questionnaire on the use of the patient pain monitoring program. The sample group entering the program get advice on how to communicate via video call, and sending messages via LINE Official Account (LINE OA) to set up a video call to follow up on pain 3 times after the patient returned home for 3 consecutive days. Analyze data using statistics paired t-test. Compare knowledge before and after giving advice. and an independent t-test to compare pain scores between the experimental group and the control group. before and after entering the program. The statistical significance was set at the 0.05 level.

The research results showed that the experimental group, There was a statistically significant reduction in pain after entering the program (p< 0.05). Comparing the mean knowledge scores before and after entering the program, it was found that the mean knowledge scores after using the program were higher than before using the program. The satisfaction scores of patients and caregivers towards the use of the program was at the highest level ( = 4.29, SD 0.21) and  (  = 4.23, SD 0.17)  

 Suggestion a mobile application visit monitoring program can be applied to the pain of terminally ill cancer patients receiving palliative care. to be applied to patients with other diseases and other disturbances.
