This research aimed to: 1) investigate the problems and needs related to the development of a nursing model for the prevention of postpartum hemorrhage, 2) develop a nursing model to prevent postpartum hemorrhage and enhance the quality of life of postpartum mothers, and 3) evaluate the effectiveness of the developed nursing model at Kamalasai Hospital, Kalasin Province. This study employed an action research design conducted from October 2024 to June 2025. The key informants consisted of 7 healthcare professionals, including physicians and registered nurses. The model development team included 8 multidisciplinary personnel, and the sample group for the implementation phase comprised 30 postpartum mothers. The research instruments included a medical record data form, focus group interview guidelines, a postpartum hemorrhage risk assessment checklist, a lochia record form, and a postpartum quality of life questionnaire. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-test, while qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis.
The results revealed that: 1) the main problems in postpartum care included limitations in resources, insufficient staffing, and gaps in communication among multidisciplinary teams. In addition, education provided to pregnant women and postpartum mothers regarding the recognition and monitoring of postpartum hemorrhage symptoms was not comprehensive. 2) The developed nursing model consisted of five key components: proactive risk screening, standardized clinical practice, accessible emergency preparedness, family empowerment, and effective team communication. 3) After implementing the nursing model, the average lochia volume significantly decreased over time (p < .001). Furthermore, the overall quality of life of postpartum mothers was at a high level ( = 4.13, S.D. = 0.42), particularly in the domains of maternal role ability and support from healthcare services.
In conclusion, the developed nursing model for preventing postpartum hemorrhage can be effectively implemented in postpartum care. It contributes to reducing the risk of postpartum hemorrhage and improving the quality of life of postpartum mothers.
