Nursing care of Breast cancer Patient with Hypertension undergoing Modified Radical Mastectomy : 2 Cases study

Abstract

Breast cancer is the most common cancer and cause of death in Thai women. There are several ways to treat Breast cancer, such as surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and targeted drug therapy, which depend on the type of cancer; the most common are combinations. This study is the review of patient records of 2 cases who were undergoing Modified Radical Mastectomy from January to May 2023. The objectives of this study are 1] to study Nursing diagnosis in Breast cancer patients, 2] to study nursing care of Breast cancer with Hypertension patients undergoing surgery, and 3] to study complications after surgery. The related literature was reviewed, and concepts of Gordon's Functional Health Pattern and Orem’s self-care competency theory were used. The patient care team discussed the nursing care process and summarized it.

 The result showed that patients who were undergoing Modified Radical Mastectomy had similar problems, including pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative. The demographic and underlying are similar. The differences are peri-operative and post-operative complications. The first case took more extended operation time, and more blood was lost. There was presented hypoxia, showed lung atelectasis and hyperglycemia. The second case had no complications and recovered well.

 Conclusion: Nursing care plans, including pre-operative, peri - operative, and post-operative, are essential. Some complications are preventable. The nursing care plan should be adapted to prevent post-operative complications.
