Abstract

Idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss is an important manifestation in rhino-otolaryngologic practice. There is no definition and management which has been universally accepted. This study reviewed the records of 31 patients presenting with idiopathic sudden sudden sensorineural hearing loss between October 2009 and September 2011. The disease frequently occurred between 40 and 50 years of age, with equal sex distribution. Vestibular symptoms were present in one-third of patients. Three most common underlying diseases were dyslipidemia, hypertension and diabetic mellitus. Flat audiogram and severe degree of hearing loss were the most common type. Almost all patients received oral prednisolone. Recovery of hearing occurred in the most patients.
