Waste Management in Maharat Nakhon Rachasima Hospital

Abstract

TWaste in Hospital needs good management otherwise it can be harmful for environment, both inside and outside the hospital. The aim of this paper is to study the waste and its management in Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital between October 2008-March 2009. The results are as follows:

1. The quantity and types of waste: waste was produced about 2,150.14 kg per day or 3.1 kg per day per bed. The types of waste were organic 46%, recycle 14% and dangerous 40%.


2. The standard method of waste collection, which was dependent on types of waste, i.e. general, toxic, dangerous, was practiced Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital.


3. The standard method of waste transportation which was dependent on types of waste, i.e. general, toxic and dangerous, was practiced in Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital.


4. The waste disposal in Maharat Nakhon Rachasima Hospital had been run by the exterior organization. The method of disposal was dependent on types of waste, i.e. the general and organic wastes by sanitary landfill, toxic and dangerous wasted burning in the incinerator.
