Abstract

Twenty cases of eosinophilia of unidentified etiologies who had eosinophil count more than 1,000/mm3, no history of any allergic disease, normal physical examination, were alternatively allocated into 2 equal groups. The experimental group were treated with albendazole 2 tablets, 2 times a day for 7 days, compared with control group. Within 1 month, the eosinophil was re-evaluated. And it would be considered effective if the eosinophil was less than 1,000/mm3. In the experimental group, the effective rate was 70%, as compared to 10% of the control. No side effect was observed in both groups. In conclusion, albendazole was shown effective in case of eosinophilia without obvious causes.
