Effects of Discharge Planning Program on Total Knee Arthroplasty Patient Rehabilitation at Fang Hospital, Chiang Mai Province.

ABSTRACT

          This research is Quasi-experimental research. The objectives of the research were to study the effects of a discharge planning program on Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) Patient Rehabilitation at Fang Hospital, Chiang Mai Province, and to compare the complications, duration of admitted, and patient knowledge between TKA patients who received and not received the program.

            A total of 44 samples were TKA patients of Fang Hospital Chiang Mai Province from January to April 2024 The samples were divided into 22 persons for the control group and 22 persons for the test group. Data are analyzed by using the Fisher Exact probability test and independent t-test with the significant level at 0.05

            The results showed that knowledge of selfcare after Total Knee Arthroplasty among the new discharge planning program group were higher than who received the origin discharge planning program (p<0.01). The rehabilitation of patients who received Discharge Planning Program was better than those who did not receive the program, including the angle of knee flexion, ability to walk horizontally, ability to walk uphill and level of knee flexion (p<0.01).
The recommendation for best practice of TKA patient rehabilitation was application the discharge planning program by D-METHOD together with a rehabilitation plan after TKA operation for effective care, reducing the duration of hospital stay and promoting TKA patient's quality of life.
