Effectiveness of the program for developing skills in caring for the elderly regarding dependency on care skills of caregivers in the area of Pa Daet District, Chiang Rai Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research study were 1) to compare the knowledge of caring for dependent elderly among caregivers before and after receiving the program; 2) to compare the skills of caregivers for dependent elderly before and after. Receiving the program 3) To compare the level of ability to carry out daily activities of 30 dependent elderly people (ADL) before and after receiving the program. This is a quasi-experimental research. (Quasi-Experimental Research) One group pretest-posttest design. One group pretest-posttest design. Research tools. Personal factors questionnaire Assessment of knowledge in caring for dependent elderly people Skills of caregivers in caring for dependent elderly people and the level of ability to perform daily activities of dependent elderly people (ADL). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Analytical statistics used Paired t-test. The research results found that sample group Knowledge in caring for dependent elderly was at a moderate level ( x ̅ = 13.37), after the experiment ( x ̅ = 18.50) was at a high level. which was higher than before receiving the program to develop skills in caring for the elderly, depending on the caregiver's care skills Statistically significant at the level of 0.05, the skills in caring for the elderly in the group of caregivers of dependent elderly were at a moderate level ( x ̅ = 2.79), after the experiment  ( x ̅ = 4.55) were at a high level. Skills of caregivers of dependent elderly people, which were higher than before receiving the program to develop skills in caring for dependent elderly people, affected the caregiving skills of caregivers. Statistically significant at the 0.05 level, the level of ability to carry out daily activities of dependent elderly people (ADL) has a mean score of 7.07 After the experiment, the mean score was 8.40, which was higher than before receiving the program to develop skills in caring for elderly people who are dependent on the care skills of caregivers. With statistical significance at the 0.05 level, it can be seen that the research results obtained Can be used as information in designing activities to develop caregiving skills for the elderly, dependency on caregivers' caregiving skills.
