Abstract

This study aimed to compare the outcomes between a drug delivery methods via health riders combined with telepharmacy services and in-hospital dispensing. A quasi-experimental study among non-communicable disease patients receiving services at Mae Sai Hospital, covering three sub-districts: Wiang Pang Kham, Mae Sai, and Pong Pha. Participants were divided into two groups: (1) received medications directly at the hospital group, and (2) received drug delivery methods via health riders combined with telepharmacy services group. Data were prospectively collected between November 11, 2024, and August 31, 2025. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze baseline characteristics. Mann-whitney U test and Chi square test were used for inferential statistics, with a statistical significance level of 0.05.

A total of 144 participants were included, 72 in each group. Baseline characteristics, medication adherence, and overall importance scores were not significantly different (p > 0.05, p = 0.442, p = 0.139, respectively). The home-delivery group showed fewer dispensing errors and reported higher satisfaction, better understanding of medication use, and improved self-care behaviors (p = 0.041, p < 0.001, p = 0.009, respectively).

These findings suggest that implementing home delivery together with pharmacist follow-up through telepharmacy can enhance patient safety, service efficiency, and overall satisfaction compared with in-hospital dispensing. It also helps minimize medication errors and slightly alleviate hospital congestion. This could serve for expansion and improvement of pharmacy services in the future
