Cerebral Venous Thrombosis due to Protein C or Protein S Deficiency: Report of Six Cases and Literature Review

Abstract

          In the present day the novel risk factors for developing cerebral venous thrombosis have been found. The inherited prothrombotic diseases such as protein C or protein S deficiency are the causes of this condition. In Thai population, the clinical data of this condition due to protein C or protein S deficiency have never been investigated. The author had reported six cases of cerebral venous thrombosis due to protein C or protein S deficiency at Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital. The literatures were reviewed to compare the clinical data of cerebral venous thrombosis from any cause and from protein C or protein S deficiency. The baseline characteristics such as age, sex and risk factors, symptoms and signs were not different between patients with and without protein C or protein S deficiency. The good outcomes of the treatment with anticoagulant were found in both groups.
