Diabetic Care in Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima B.E.2546 (Diabcare 2003)

Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus is gradually increased around the world and the more complications will be expected in the near future. Therefore Diabcare project is established for studying the important data which will be hopefully useful for diabetic care in the future. Objective: To demonstrate the basic data about care, treatment and complications of diabetic patients. Patients and Methods: The diabetic patients who had continually attended out patient clinic at Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital (MNH) for 12 months or more in the year 2000, were recruited. The basic data would be collected from medical vecord, interview, physical examination and laboratory findings according to Diabcare Asia data collection form. Results: From 202 diabetic patients, 198 records were complete enough for analysis Male : female 1:3. Prevalence of overweight was 54.6% Diet control and regular exercise were practiced in more than 70% According to the criteria of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) the bold sugar, lipid and blood pressure were in good control less than 50%. For complications, diabetic retinopathy was found 28.4%, nephropathy 16.9% peripheral neuropathy 17.3% and cataract 40.1% Conclusion: For diabetic care in MNH, control of blood sugar, lipid and blood pressure should be more emphasized until achievement of the criteria of ADA, is accessed.
