Demographic Data of Atopic Patients in Pediatric‘s Dermatology Clinic, Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital

Abstract

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common skin disease in infants and children and its etiology is multifactorial, especially an interaction between genetic and environmental factors. Objective: to determine the fundamental data if AD history of atopy in family including contact allergens and medical history. Patients and methods: one hundred and five children were diagnosed as AD between 1 October 2002 to 30 December 2003, only 62 cases could be evaluated with questionnaire and their records reviewed. Results: Sixty-two children were included, 32 males (51.6%) and 30 females (84.4%). A family history of allergy was found in 32 children (51.6%) and 30 cases (48.4%) had history of contact with rapok wool, dust and 38 (61.3%) had pets. Conclusions: The study shows that the majority of atopic patients in pediatric’s dermatology clinic were between 3-15 years of age. And most of them had family history of atopy and contact allergens
