Primary Repair of the Injured Colon: Evaluation of Risk Factors
Main Article Content
Abstract
The record of 178 patients with colonic injuries at Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital, during January 1985 to December 1996 were retrospectively reviewed in order to find out the result of primary repair of colon wounds. One hundred and eighteen of 178 patients (67%) were treated with primary repair (including resection and primary anastomosis). Eighteen of them (15%) developed septic complication and caused 5 death (4%) Risk factors that related to the increasing of septic complication were associated intra-abdominal injuries over 2 organs (p <0.001). However, cause of injuries, location of injuries and time delayed from injury to surgery did not significantly contribute to septic complication after primary repair.
