Potentially Important Drug Interaction in Out-patients of Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital

Abstract
Potentially drug interaction was studied by collecting data from all Out-patient drug prescriptions during February 1 to April 30, 1994 The studied prescriptions were those which had two or more systemic-effect drug 40 pairs of well-documented drug interaction were considered in the study.
The result revealed that 125 of 60137 prescriptions (0.21%) were identified as having drug interaction. The first four pairs of common drug interaction were theophyl- line-erythromycin (16.0%), norfloxacin-antacid (15.2%), beta-blocker-indomethacin (12.8%), potassium sparing diuretic-KCI (12.8%).The proportion of prescription which having drug interaction could be categorized according to departments, viziz. medicine (87.2%), pediatrics (4.8%), surgery (2.4%), others (5.6%)
