HIV Risk Sexual Behavior of Pregnant Women at ANC Clinic, Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital

Abstract

AIDS epidemic in Thailand has extented from homosexual group and intravenousdrug user group to familles, the smallest unit of society, and babies. The HIV risk sexual havior of pregnant women (aged 15-29 years) who attended ANC clinic at Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital during 1 June to 15 July 1996 were studied. Among 273 pregnant women, 82.8% were in the age-group 20-29 years and 60% were unskilled labor. 86.5% of samples have been married. Among 89% of pregnant women were the second pregnancy. The residence of 90% of the study group were Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The HIV risk sexual behaviors of the study group revealed that 11 pregnant women (4%) reported extramarital sex without condom. Their educational level were secondary school or less. There were no relation between agegroup and extramarital sex. The number of the first sexual intercourse with condom were only 7.7% of the study group. The ratio of condom-use were high in the high educational level groups. The least condom-use group were farmer. There  were no relation between age-group and the first sexual intercourse with condom. The number of having first sexual intercourse with acquaintance were only 4% of the study group. Their educational level were primary school. There were no relation between age-group, career and having first sexual intercourse with acquaintance.
