The effective of Informative and pre-operative practice program for anxiety releasing of patients before cataract surgery: a case study of Bang Bua Thong Hospital, Nonthaburi

Abstract

          The quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effective of learning and pre-operative practice program for anxiety releasing of patients before cataract surgery: a case study of Bang Bua Thong Hospital, Nonthaburi Province. The sample groups were cataract patients who appointed for intraocular lens replacement surgery within 30 days at Bang Bua Thong Hospital. There were 40 cases, 20 cases were controlled and the remained were observed from 1 January 2020 to 30 April 2020. The target patients received pre-cataract knowledge promotion and practice program to reduce anxiety before cataract surgery. Afterward, they were interviewed and filled out the questionnaire regarded to the mentioned knowledge and practice program. These research methodologies have been approved by 3 experts. The validity of the questionnaire was obtained by finding the alpha coefficient of Cronbach’s alpha equal to 0.87. The Unpaired t- test and Paired t-test determined the correlation coefficient of frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation.

          As a result, the patient groups who received the knowledge and pre- operative practice program had a higher average score than before receiving the program significantly (p-value=0.00) and had a lower mean anxiety score than the usual care group (p-value=0.00). In conclusion, the pre-cataract knowledge promotion and action program to reduce anxiety before cataract surgery benefit to cataract patients who made an appointment for surgery.
