Compare Operation Outcomes Of Gallstones Open Cholecystectomy And Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy At Makarak Hospital

Abstract

This retrospective cohort study was to compare the operative outcomes of gallstones between open cholecystectomy and laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Makarak hospital by assessing the occurrence of complications and length of hospital stay. Data were collected from hospital database on materials and surgical procedures of patients who had undergone gallbladder surgery during the past 12 years, from January 2008 to December 2019. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistic, odd ratio and independent t- test. The result revealed that there were 511 cholecystectomies were performed, 255 cases were open cholecystectomy, 249 cases were laparoscopic cholecystectomy and 7 cases were partial open cholecystectomies. Either way, it's more female than male. Average age of people undergoing open cholecystectomy was 50.73 and laparoscopy was 48.79 years. The average hospital length of stay between open and laparoscopic cholecystectomy was statistically significantly different (p < 0.00). Complication after cholecystectomies include pneumonia, acute kidney injury and retained common bile duct stone; It was found that in open cholecystectomy was significantly higher than in laparoscopic cholecystectomy (p < 0.00). Other complications, such as injury to other nearby organs, re-surgery within 1 week, bleeding at the surgical incision site, urinary tract infection, deep venous thrombosis, pancreatitis, surgical wound infection, common bile duct injury and cholangitis, there were no statistically significant differences in both surgical
