Effect of a palliative and end-of-life care program for caregivers Bang Nok Khwaek Subdistrict, Bang Khonthi District, Samut Songkhram Province

Abstract
Palliative and end-of-life care at the community level in Thailand still has a lot of problems, especially the lack of caregivers who know how to give end-of-life care and are confident doing so.
This situation makes it hard to give patients in the terminal stage continuous and appropriate care.
The goal of this study was to look at how a palliative and end-of-life care program affected caregivers. The study utilized a quasi-experimental design featuring a one-group pretest-posttest methodology. The sample comprised 32 caregivers of palliative and terminal patients within the community. Surveys that asked people about their knowledge, attitudes, caregiving skills, and how happy they were with the program were some of the research tools used. We used descriptive statistics and
a paired t-test to look at the data and see how the means changed before and after the intervention.
The findings indicated that caregivers possessed substantial knowledge. After the intervention,
the mean score went up from 17.97 (SD = 1.95) to 22.84 (SD = 4.01), which is a statistically significant improvement (t = 2.804, p < 0.05). After the intervention, the mean score for attitudes went up from 3.72 (SD = 0.45) to 4.27 (SD = 0.22). This is a big change (t = 5.973, p < 0.05). After the intervention, the average score for caregiving skills rose from 36.80 (SD = 3.28) to 41.81 (SD = 5.64), which was
a statistically significant change (t = 4.400, p < 0.05). These results show that caregivers' knowledge, attitudes, and skills improved significantly after they took part in the program (p < 0.05). Caregivers also said they were very happy with the program as a whole, giving it an average score of 4.12 (SD = 0.26). The results show that the program for palliative and end-of-life care helped caregivers in
the community learn more, change their minds, and get better at what they do. But for the program to improve care for patients and their families in the long run, it needs to grow and become a part of the community healthcare system.
