Abstract

Objective: To study effect of lost follow-up violent behavior of inpatients of Nakhon Ratchasima Psychiatric Hospital. Patients and method: The author operated unmatched case-control retrospective analytic study on effect of lost follow-up on violent behavior of psychiatric inpatients. Sampled population was inpatients of Nakhon Ratchasima Psychiatric Hospital in the fiscal year 1993. The cases were a sampled population of 148 who had violent behavior during their admissions. The controls were a sampled population who did not have violent behavior during their admissions and were sampled by simple random sampling to number 148 cases. The risk factor was lost follow-up. It was found that the relative risk of having violent behavior of inpatients who lost follow-up over those who did not lose follow-up was 6.02 and was of significance. Therefore, lost follow-up of psychiatric patients could be prevented by various methods such as improving the mental health service systems network and referring system, etc. to decrease risk of violence.
