Abstract

This article aimed to present the history of song of Hungry Men’s Blue and its characteristic which is a way of analyzing western music to focus on presenting elements and various subunits by using the principles of jazz music theory as a tool. From the study, it was revealed that the song of Hungry Men’s Blue is a 12-bar blues song composed in the C Blues scale. The melody has three sentences in the question-and-answer format. The five motifs are a, b, c, d, and e, while a and b motif found as the original harmony melody. Dominant seven chords are mainly used, I7 - IV7 - V7 - I7 chord progressions, and some embellished chords. Chord functions are associated with Tonic, Pre-Dominant and Dominant. The outstanding identity is the use of half notes which is resulted to the song is valuable in music science.
