LAO GHOST TALES: GHOST STORYTELLING STRATEGIES IN ONLINE MEDIA: A CASE STUDY OF THE YOUTUBE CHANNEL JULYJULEE

Abstract

This article aims to study the elements of Lao ghost stories and the storytelling techniques of Lao ghost stories. Lao ghost stories are interesting and widely spread, probably by word of mouth, written text, and published on various websites such as YOUTUBE, the Lao ghost story channel JulyJulee (Lao Tales JulyJulee). Therefore, each Lao ghost story shows the social conditions, traditions, lifestyles, beliefs, and trusts of people in each era, and provides morals and values, making the story more understandable. Some stories are based on history to provide knowledge. Lao ghost stories have both good and bad ghosts. Good ghosts are normal ghosts that do not harm humans and also promote goodness, making humans respect them. As for bad ghosts, they have bad characteristics that create fear and cause suffering to humans.

The results of the study found 2 issues as follows: 1) Elements of Lao ghost stories, such as the title, story, plot, scene, characters, and conclusion. 2) Storytelling techniques in Lao ghost stories presented through Lao media today.
