The Effects of a Holistic Nursing Team Management Program using Line Application on the Pain Management Competencies of Nurses in the Orthopedic Ward in a Tertiary Hospital

Objectives: To examine the effects of a holistic nursing team management program using the LINE application on the pain management competencies of nurses in the orthopedic ward.
Methods: A quasi-experimental study with two-group, pretest-posttest design was conducted. Participants were nurses working in orthopedic wards at a tertiary hospital in Health Region 5, selected through purposive sampling. The samples were divided into an experimental group (n=30) and a control group (n=30). The research instruments included: 1) a holistic nursing team management program via the LINE application, adapted from pain management concepts; and 2) a pain management competency assessment questionnaire for orthopedic nurses. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-tests.
Results: Baseline characteristics between the experimental and control groups showed no significant differences. After participating in the program, the experimental group’s overall mean score for pain management competency was at a high level (Mean=4.42, SD=0.37), which was significantly higher than the pretest score (Mean=2.40, SD=0.31). The experimental group achieved significantly higher competency scores than the control group, which remained at a moderate level (Mean=2.57, SD=0.31; p<0.001).
Conclusions: Nursing leaders in orthopedic wards should implement the holistic nursing team management program via the LINE application across all units. This implementation is recommended to enhance pain management competencies and ensure more effective patient care.
