Abstract

Objective: To examine the effects of a participatory supervision program using an electronic manual on the perception of the nursing process for stroke patients among professional nurses at a tertiary hospital.

Methods: A quasi-experimental, two-group, pretest-posttest design was conducted. The sample consisted of 80 professional nurses working in surgical and medical wards, divided into an experimental group (n=40) and a control group (n=40). The experimental group participated in the participatory supervision program using an electronic manual for 8 weeks, while the control group received conventional supervision. Data were collected via a questionnaire regarding the perception of the nursing process for stroke patients and analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-tests.

Results: After the intervention, the experimental group’s mean score for perception of the nursing process was significantly higher than their pre-intervention score (4.19±0.27 vs. 3.44±0.23; p<0.001). Furthermore, the experimental group achieved a significantly higher mean score than the control group (4.19±0.27 vs. 3.47±0.26; p<0.001). The level of perception in the experimental group was categorized as high, whereas the control group remained at a moderate level.

Conclusion: The participatory supervision program using an electronic manual effectively enhances the perception of the nursing process for stroke patients, particularly in nursing diagnosis regarding prioritization and severity assessment to address patient-specific problems. Nursing administrators should implement this program consistently to further improve the quality of nursing care for stroke patients.
