Abstract
Introduction: An enlarged lymph node in the neck is a condition found in the visible area and can be palpable from the early stages. It is found in all age groups and may be a leading symptom of many diseases. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Therefore, it is important to diagnose the cause, which may be caused by Infection, Benign, Malignant, Autoimmune, Drug induce, Iatrogenic 6. Therefore, collecting data to determine the incidence of enlarged lymph nodes, identifying risk factors for lymphoma to help plan treatment more accurately, quickly, and safely.
Objective: To study the incidence of enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, the pathological effects of patients with enlarged lymph nodes of unknown cause, and the risk factors for developing lymph node cancer, to use the obtained basic information in planning patient care at Warinchamrab Hospital accurately, quickly, and safely.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study with a prospective study was conducted in patients with enlarged lymph nodes in the neck of unknown cause at Warinchamrab Hospital between January 1, 2019 and July 31, 2025. The data analysis results were analyzed by the researcher, who then checked the completeness of the data and processed it. Descriptive statistics were divided into percentages, averages, and standard deviations. Inference statistics include chi-square and multiple logistic regression.
Results: A total 560 patients who underwent neck lymph node surgery were 230 male patients, 330 female patients, found in a group of 213(38%)Reactive lymph nodes (70 males, 143 females), 140 (25%)Tuberculosis lymph nodes (51 males, 89 females), 160(28.6%) carcinoma cases (102 males, 58 females), and 47(8.4%) non-cancer tissue cases (7 males, 40 females).
Conclusion: Patients with enlarged lymph nodes in the neck of unknown origin are found at all age groups, leading to several other diseases. From the data, it was found that patients aged 11-30 years are most commonly found in the reactive lymphoid hyperplasia group, and in the 31-50 age group, casesous granulomatous are most common. Patients over 60 years old are most commonly found in the Lymphoma, metastasis carcinoma neck node group, and the risk factors for cancer are men, over 40 years old, nodules larger than 2 centimeters, and if enlarged lymph nodes are found at the supraclavicular site. It was found that there is a cancer risk of up to 3.3%. Neck, supraclavicular, and submental positions show that the parasitic effects are caseous granulomatous. All of these basic data will be used to provide information and plan treatment to achieve accurate, rapid, and precise diagnosis for the maximum benefit of all patients.
