Effects of the discharge planning program for stroke patients on knowledge and behavior in discharge planning of nurses, Chaokhunpaiboon Phanomthuan Hospital, Kanchanaburi Province

Abstract

        The objectives of this quasi - experimental research one groups pre-posttest design article was to 1) compare the mean knowledge scores before and after participating in the stroke patient discharge planning program for nurses. 2) compare the mean scores on discharge planning behavior before and after participating in the stroke patient discharge planning program and 3) study the satisfaction of nurses after participating in the discharge planning program for stroke patients. The sample group was 35 registered nurses. Data were collected between September - October 2023. Research instrument consisted of personal information questionnaires, knowledge test for nurses regarding discharge planning for stroke patients, behavioral assessment form for discharge planning for stroke patients and satisfaction of nurses after participating in the nurse discharge planning program for stroke patients. The questionare had a content validity index of .67-1.00 a reliability of knowledge test was .83. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for behavior was .94. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the whole version was .90. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and paired t-test.

        The research results found that nurses who participated in the stroke patient discharge planning program had higher mean scores of knowledge and discharge planning behavior than before participating in the stroke patient discharge planning program statistically significant at the 0.05 level, overall satisfaction had the highest average score ( = 4.48, SD = 0.56)
