Factors related to health promotion behavior of the elderly in Ban Na Subdistrict, Klaeng District, Rayong Province

This descriptive cross-sectional research aimed to study the relationships between personal factors, namely, sex, age, education level, perceived benefits of health promotion, and perceived obstacles to health promotion and health-promoting behaviors among older adults in Ban Na Subdistrict, Klaeng District, Rayong Province. The samples consisted of 312 elderly participants who participated through purposive sampling. Data were collected using validated questionnaires assessing personal factors, health-promoting behaviors, perceived benefits, and perceived obstacles to health promotion. Content validity was approved by three experts, with content validity indices ranging from .96 to 1.00, and reliability coefficients between .86 to .92. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, and Pearson’s product-moment correlation.
The findings indicated that many participants were female. Overall, health-promoting behavior was good ( = 2.91, SD = 0.30). Perceived benefits of health promotion were positively associated with health-promoting behaviors (r = .324, p = .017), while perceived barriers were negatively associated (r = –.129, p= .026). However, the results showed no significant associations between personal factors, namely, gender, age, education level, and health-promoting behaviors.
